Parish News Round-Up

Thursday September 25 2014

A new weekly round-up of news received from local churches.

On Sunday, September 7 2014 there was a distinctly nautical theme at St Michael’s and South Church, Dumfries when the local branch of the Merchant Navy Association held their annual thanksgiving service.  The service led by the Rev Dr Maurice Bond and featuring branch members saw the dedication of a new ensign and heard addresses from Capt Arthur Murphy MN (Retired) and on behalf of the Royal Navy, Commodore Bob Williams RN.

The Rev Mhorag Macdonald received a presentation from the congregation of Wishaw Cambusnethan North Parish Church to mark 25 years since her Ordination and Induction into the charge.
The photograph shows Angus Mackay, Session Clerk; Mrs Macdonald; Ailie McGowan and Findlay McGowan (both from Sunday School).

On Sunday August 17 there was a particularly significant service held when the Rev John Paton ordained and admitted the first new elders in Tobermory Parish Church since his becoming minister of North Mull Parishes.  Mary-Jean Devon was admitted as an elder and Iain Campbell was ordained as an elder.  At the same service a presentation was made to Douglas MacNeilage MBE, who had recently retired from the position of Session Clerk.  Mr Paton thanked him for sterling service given to the church over many years and invaluable support given to the minister since he had taken over the charge.
