Moderator Praises Work of CrossReach

Monday November 3 2014

The Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev John Chalmers said yesterday (Sunday) that through the work of CrossReach ‘Christ is vibrantly alive in the caring, serving hands of staff and volunteers across the country’.

Giving the sermon at a celebration service launching CrossReach Week, Mr Chalmers likened the work of the Church of Scotland’s Social Care Arm to Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. He added: “It’s this stuff, and not the dogmas we hold dear, that build the Kingdom.”

The service, held in St George's Tron Church, Glasgow, was also addressed by staff and users of two CrossReach services: the Daisy Chain Early Years Project in Govanhill and Rainbow House and Whiteinch Project.

CrossReach Week, now in its third year, is an annual celebration of the work of the charity.

Today (Monday), the focus is on CrossReach’s services to older people, and particularly the ‘Playlist for Life’ initiative. Journalist and broadcaster Sally Magnusson will be joined by practitioner and trainer Andy Lownes to introduce this groundbreaking scheme working with dementia sufferers.

Other events this week will focus on adult care, children and family services, vision and strategy for social work in Scotland, and learning disability services. Events will take place in churches and CrossReach services across the country.

Details of CrossReach week are available here.
