Evangelical Alliance Welcomes 'End of Page 3'

Tuesday January 23 2015

The Director of Evangelical Alliance Scotland has welcomed reports that The Sun newspaper has dropped its topless page 3 models.

However the Rev Fred Drummond, a Church of Scotland minister, said that the online version of the feature should also be scrapped. He said: "The reality is that Page 3 is the thin edge of a very big wedge - the multibillion pound porn industry - and after a whole generation it is finally coming to an end. The end of page 3 represents a victory for all women, and for all of us who have long campaigned for a more decent and respectful press in Scotland.

"But ending the print version is not enough, Rupert Murdoch needs to go the next step and remove it from the online version as well.  Over the last year we have considered what kind of nation Scotland should be and that is one where page three, in all its forms, is consigned to the dustbin of history."

The Alliance had been part of the No More Page 3 campaign since March last year.
