Our weekly round-up of news received from local churches.

 

On Sunday January 11 the Moderator of Moray Presbytery conducted a service of worship and celebration at the newly united charge of Bellie and Speymouth Parish Church of Scotland.

Bellie and Speymouth churches were amongst the early linkage charges having been linked since 1959.  In the words of one of the Elders “This long and happy engagement became a marriage” on January 1.

At the same service of celebration a number of long service certificates were presented - three of the four elders were also retiring as Ruling Elders from the Kirk Session.

The Lowson Memorial Parish Church in Forfar celebrated 100 years of worship in 2014.

The Centenary Service on May 14 was the highlight of the year when minister, the Rev Dr Karen Fenwick welcomed guests including the then Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rt Rev Lorna Hood, former ministers and families and members of Angus Council.

‘Special’ services were held each month, ranging from a ‘celebration of love’ in February, to a ‘service of appreciation’ for each member’s contribution; along with ceilidhs, concerts, a carpet bowling tournament, flower festival, silent auction, harest supper, fireworks night and an evening of Christmas Carols.

In November, the Church Guild also celebrated its Centenary with friends from Guilds throughout Angus and invited guests Iain Whyte (the Guild General Secretary, and singer Maggie Findlay.


The Rev Andy Campbell, Minister of Gargunnock linked with Kincardine-in-Menteith linked with Kilmadock (Doune) presented long service certificates to elders at two of his charges.

Each year, Dalgety Parish Church selects a charity to support through its Harvest Thanksgiving celebrations. In 2014 the church raised £3220 for CrossReach’s Perth Prison Visitor Centre, through a written appeal and other events. Story and picture on the CrossReach website.


A Church community project on the Isle of Lewis is operating near full capacity just six months after opening. Story on the Church of Scotland website.
