Vice Moderator, Kristina Hellqvist from the Church of Sweden, said that the meeting of the Brussels-based commission gave them an opportunity to discuss the position of refugees in Europe, with particular attention to the current problems in Greece and Spain as well as changes to European directives surrounding asylum seekers and the situation of the Roma population throughout Europe.
"We try to figure out what our churches are facing and what the best, most valuable thing we can do to change people's situation is," she said.
"We feel it is important that we take the commission out of Brussels and go to member churches countries. That way we are able to expose ourselves to the issues they face in particular. The Church of Scotland has shown us super hospitality, and though it's been a heavy agenda to get through, we have a very good working relationship and we always feel incredibly inspired."
Representatives from the Reformed tradition, Orthodox, Lutherian and Pentecostal traditions from Brussels, Greece, Germany, Czech republic, Spain, the UK, the Romany people and the World Council of Churches attended.
