Summer School Establishes in Scotland

Wednesday February 4

A Canadian model of Christian Summer Schools is establishing itself in Scotland, with its second event this summer.

The Abbey Summer School meets from July 23-25 in Edinburgh. The event is described as ‘something between a conference and a festival’, with a final-day pilgrimage to Dryburgh Abbey (above).

The format has been brought over from Regent College in Vancouver, which holds a Summer School which has proven popular with Scottish students and lecturers.

The organisers are mostly Regent College staff or alumni with a Scottish connection. They include Matt Canlis, who is an ordained minister in the Church of Scotland and currently serves at Trinity Church in Wenatchee, Washington.

This year’s keynote speaker is Jeremy Begbie, a writer and lecturer on the relationship between theology and the arts, who has previously taught at St Andrews and Cambridge Universities and is now based at Duke University in the States.
