Parish News Round-up

Thursday February 12

Our weekly round-up of news received from local churches.

St Mary’s Parish Church, Motherwell celebrated its centenary last year. The celebrations included charity fundraising, and by the end of the year the church had been able to present cheques for £1000 to Help the Heroes (for the Invictus Games), Cancer Care Lanarkshire, the local Women’s Aid, Yorkhill Children’s Charity and Alzheimer Scotland.

Representatives of the charities are pictured with minister, the Rev David Doyle, and Stuart Reid, the Treasurer of the church’s Centenary Action Team.

Lockerbie Dryfesdale Hutton and Corrie Guild celebrated the 120th anniversary of the formation of the guild in Lockerbie on 20th November 2014 . Representatives were invited from all the guilds in our presbytery plus guests from the local churches.   Mrs Eileen Muir, Mrs Vi Miller and Mrs Ena Anderson were invited to cut a celebratory cake on behalf of the members and a delicious afternoon tea was served.

Alex Gowans, who celebrated his 90th birthday last week, has been a Church of Scotland Elder for 68 years and is still actively involved at Cathcart Trinity Church in Glasgow.
