Edinburgh Church Choirs' Unique Collaboration

Tuesday March 3

Three of Edinburgh’s major church choirs will perform together for the first time on Saturday.

The choirs of Greyfriars Kirk, St Giles Cathedral and St Andrews and St George’s West Church, along with the Edinburgh University Chamber Choir will perform as part of the Spark Festival of Worship and the Arts at Greyfriars.

They are joined by Edinburgh City Organist Dr John Kitchen, the Edinburgh Charity Orchestra and young Scottish conductor Iain McLarty. Iain will be familiar as a former Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s National Youth Assembly and is a member of the Mission and Discipleship Council’s Music Group.

The programme will include Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony, Blest Pair of Sirens by Hubert Parry, Kenneth Leighton’s Te Deum Laudamus, Holst’s Psalm 148 and Vaughan Williams’ Old Hundredth.

The concert takes place on Saturday, March 7, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets at £10 or £5 for under 16s and students are available here. Proceeds go to the Scottish HIV charity Waverley Care.

The Spark festival is a year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the first pipe organ in Greyfriars Kirk – one of the first permanent organs in Scotland – and the 25th birthday of the current Peter Collins organ.
