World Day of Prayer Focus on 'Radical Love'

Wednesday March 4

Events will take place in churches throughout Scotland and across the globe this Friday, March 6, to mark the World Day of Prayer.

The event, formerly the Women’s World Day of Prayer, is an international multi-denominational prayer movement initiated and carried out by Christian women (with increasing participation from men and children) in more than 180 countries and over 100 languages. Services are held all around the world, beginning in Tonga and New Zealand and continuing throughout the day to Samoa and Alaska.

The emphasis is on ‘informed prayer and prayerful action’, with a focus on specific issues of the country that has prepared the service.

Materials have been prepared this year by Christian women of the Bahamas, based on Jesus’s words after he had washed the disciples’ feet: “Do you know what I have done to you?” (John 13:12). The theme is the radical love of Christ, with a challenge to participants to continue the gesture of love in their own communities.

Downloadable materials and details of events in some areas are available on the World Day of Prayer Scotland website.
