Helping Children Play

Tuesday June 16 2015

A CrossReach project has been chosen as one of nine charities helping children from disadvantaged communities benefit from outdoor play.

The Daisy Chain Project in Govanhill, Glasgow, is among the groups chosen to deliver Play Rangers activities across Scotland.

Working in partnership with Jeely Piece Club, the project will offer play sessions during the summer holidays and October half term for local children – in particular those from the Roma community - up to 12 years old.

Play Rangers provide children with opportunities to access free play provision within their community - on the streets, in local parks or woodland. They encourage children to attend the free sessions and increase parents’ confidence in letting their children play outside.

The Play Rangers programme follows on from the Scottish Government’s £2m Go2Play Fund, which ran from 2012 to this year.

Similar organisations or partnerships have been announced for Dundee, Edinburgh, South Ayrshire and Midlothian.

CrossReach is the social care arm of the Church of Scotland.
