'Faith Through A Lens'

                                                                                                                                                         Wednesday July 8, 2015

AN annual amateur photography competition with a focus on faith is open for entries.

Faith Through a Lens, which profiles the positive effects of faith on a wide range of communities, encourages photographers from across the UK to capture an image of what faith means to them. The not-for-profit competition is supported by Congregational & General Charitable Trust.

Photographers, aged over 16, have until October 12 to submit entries (which can include images taken by mobile phone or table). More information is available at www.faiththroughalens.co.uk

Shortlisted winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in London in November and have the chance to win £1000 of audio visual or photography equipment for the charity, faith or community group of their choice. Each finalist will also receive prizes worth £250.

Launching the competition, Stuart Young from the Congregational & General Charitable Trust, said: “In launching Faith Through a Lens 2015, we hope to capture the vibrant, diverse and significant role faith plays in people’s lives.

“The judges are looking for an original and creative image that stands out and encapsulates faith. The image could depict a moment of faith, community sprit against the odds or illustrate a community hero.

The judging panel comprises photojournalist Don McCullin; Aaqil Ahmed, Head of Religion and Ethics at the BBC; the Rev Dr David Cornick from Churches Together in England; Paresh Solanki, representing Inter Faith Network; photojournalist Hazel Thompson and Stuart Young from Congregational & General Charitable Trust.
