Memorial to Army Chaplains Unveiled

The Rev Dr David Coulter, Chaplain General and Church of Scotland minister, dedicated a new memorial to British Army chaplains at the National Memorial Arboretum last week.

The memorial to all those who have served as Army Chaplains in times of both war and peace, features crossed swords with their points beaten into ploughshares, surmounted on a shepherd's crook.

It was unveiled by Lieutenant General James Everard, Commander Land Force, at a poignant service of dedication held by the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department.

The National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield in Staffordshire, includes nearly 300 memorials for the armed forces, civilian organisations and voluntary bodies who have played a part in serving the country.

“What a lovely idea, especially for those of us close to Military Chaplains. Are there similar memorials for Naval and RAF chalplains either in place or planned and if so, can you let me know where i?”

Tom Baldwin - Tuesday, July 28th, 2015

“Kay - I've asked the Rev Neil Gardner of the Chaplains' Committee and the response was "Not at the National Memorial Arboretum, as far as I know. They may have memorials elsewhere, in churches associated with the Navy and the Air Force, but this is the first for chaplains at the NMA."
