Following this year's General Assembly, the Rt Rev Julius Mwamba, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), visited the Uists and preached at Benbecula linked with Carinish.

Julius is a member of Jerusha Kanyua Memorial Church (JKMC), Chuka that is twinned with the linked charge. Three weeks later a party from the two churches visited Kenya and spent two weeks with their Christian Brothers and Sisters at JKMC on what was a memorable and inspiring visit.

Greenhills Parish Church in East Kilbride welcomed two new members on the day they marked the 40th anniversary of the laying of the church's foundation stone.

Jim and Patricia Gray joined people who had been members 40 years ago when the Church building was begun, and the church was meeting in the Manse and then the local primary school.

The Bridge End Church (Burra Isle Parish, Shetland) of Scotland has recently celebrated its 150th anniversary.

To celebrate the church, known locally as "da Muckle Kirk", hosted an exhibition of over 40 wedding dresses, sometimes spanning three generations of one family, of those who have been married there. Photographs from as far back as 1903 were shown on a PowerPoint and visitors were served with tea and home bakes as they browsed. On show were a list of all the weddings that have taken place since the kirk was built, giving families an opportunity to search for ancestors.

Other memorabilia from the kirk’s life was also on display and included the original pewter communion cup, the original Bible and United Free Kirk tea cups from the period when the Kirk was of that denomination.
Musicians arrived throughout the afternoon to take part in a jamming session, providing a variety of background music.

A Gospel concert on the Sunday evening included many local groups and finished with a rousing rendition of Amazing Grace.

The theme for the anniversary weekends was ‘Looking Back and Looking Forward’, remembering the faithfulness of God in the past and his continued faithfulness to us his people. This theme was taken up in the United Service of Celebration led by parish minister the Rev Deborah Dobby, during which members of the congregation contributed some of their memories of the Kirk.

The pictures shows Melanie Laurenson, Laurena Herculeson, Grace Laurenson, Betty Fullerton and Marjorie Williamson putting the final touches to the display.

Greyfriars Parish Church in Lanark is hosting a flower festival this week on the theme ‘The Changing Clyde Valley.’

Each of the floral decorations will look at a different aspect of the Clyde Valley and alongside them will be displays and exhibitions of artefacts from different parts of the Valley.

The Festival is open from today, Thursday September 10 until Saturday, from 10am - 4pm (with a special evening opening tonight from 6-8pm) and entry costs is £5 including the programme and refreshments.

Among cards and gifts presented to Ron Walker, retiring after 30 years as organist at St Margaret's, Forfar, was a cushion inscribed "thank you so much for pulling out all the stops for us." Ron is pictured with his wife, Marion.
