The session clerk of an East Lothian church has retired after over half a century in the role.

Donald Hardie, who had been session clerk of Humbie Kirk since 1960, stepped down on September 9. In 55 years he has served under eight ministers- four when Humbie was a charge of its own and a further four in linkage with Yester, Bolton and Saltoun.

At worship on Sunday September 20, Donald was presented with a certificate and a present by Peter Kimber, the church’s locum minister.

The Ascension stained glass window in the photograph was restored and rededicated in 2009 at Donald's instigation. It was originally commissioned in 1830 as a gift to the church by landowner Archibald Broun of Johnstounburn and was removed during renovations in 1930. Donald was instrumental in inspiring the fundraising necessary to have the window restored.

Three ladies with a joint service of over 180 years to Buckie North Guild (in the Presbytery of Moray) were presented with long-service certificates at the first meeting of the 2015-16 session.

They are pictured, seated from left: Isobel Geddes, Elsie Murray and Cathy Peterkin. Standing are joint conveners Naomi Moir and Kathryn Cowie

King Edward Parish Church in Aberdeenshire held a successful talents exhibition in June. The exhibition included examples of cross-stitch, embroidery and dressmaking, photography and art. Throughout the day there were demonstrations of lace-making and patchwork.

Other popular displays included wood-turning, card making and home baking.

There was also music from the junior choir of the local primary school, which is led by church organist Eleanor Wilson, and the senior choir.
