Moderators Share Stage

The Moderators of the General Assemblies of the Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland will share a stage in a debate this week.

The Rt Rev Angus Morrison will chair the conversation between his Free Church counterpart, the Rev David Robertson, and Church of Scotland minister the Rev Scott McKenna.

The debate will take place in Mr McKenna’s church, Mayfield Salisbury in Edinburgh. Topics will include the nature of the Bible, the doctrine of substitutionary atonement, faith schools and the relationship of Christianity to other world faiths.

The debate arose after Mr Robertson wrote a critical blog on one of Mr McKenna’s sermons, which had been placed online. Mr McKenna got in touch with Mr Robertson and they agreed to meet.

Mr McKenna has contributed to Life and Work and the Church of Scotland’s worship resource Starters for Sunday.

Mr Robertson, minister of St Peter’s Free Church in Dundee, is a prominent blogger and writer on Christian apologetics and author of The Dawkins Letters.

The debate at Mayfield Salisbury Church, on Mayfield Road, is this Wednesday (September 30), starting at 7.30pm.
