Human Trafficking Events

Tuesday September 29

People from four continents will talk about how human trafficking impacts on their parts of the world at a conference in Glasgow next month.

The event in St George’s Tron church on Saturday October 17 will hear from representatives from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Europe who are working to address human trafficking in their regions.

Organised by the Scottish Churches Anti-Human Trafficking Group, it will encourage delegates to consider how everyone can play their part in eradicating this crime against humanity.

The conference, which is free and open to all, follows a two-day symposium which will be attended by representatives of international partner churches from Nepal, Bangladesh, Japan, Malawi, Jamaica, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The keynote speaker will be Dr Aidan McQuade, Director of Antislavery International, and the aim will be to begin a global network to form a strategy for churches worldwide to work towards reducing trafficking.

The Scottish Churches Anti-Human Trafficking Group was established in 2011, and brings together representatives of the Church of Scotland and Church of Scotland Guild with other churches, Christian organisations and individuals working on local church initiatives on prostitution and trafficking.
