Going the Extra Mile for CrossReach

Monday October 12

The granddaughter of the resident of a CrossReach care home is going the extra mile to raise money for the charity.

Alison Millar will this week set off for the Mull of Kintyre, where she will run a half marathon and cycle nearly 100 miles. Then on Sunday she will fly to China, where she will undertake a five-day, 31-mile trek along the Great Wall, before running returning to Scotland for another half-marathon at the end of the month.

This is all in aid of Auchinlee, a care home for people with dementia in Argyll and Bute, where Alison’s grandfather has been resident since August last year. Auchinlee is run by CrossReach, the Church of Scotland’s social care charity.

Writing on her fundraising page, Alison says: “The staff [at Auchinlee] are angels; they have hearts of gold and the patience of saints.”

Alison initially booked on to the Great Wall Triple Challenge, in which the run, cycling and trekking would all have taken place in China. However, when that was cancelled she switched to the Great Wall trek and built her own bespoke challenge.

For fundraising and training, Alison has taken part in several sporting challenges during the year, as well as organising community events such as litter picking.
