World Communion Day (October 4), was special in the Border Kirk, Carlisle.

In keeping with the ecumenical nature of the day, the church welcomed the Rev Father Eston Pembamoyo from the Anglican Church in South Malawi. Eston, visiting with his wife Joyce, gave the scripture reading and told the Border Kirk congregation about his parish.

Later that week, the church welcomed another visitor from Malawi: Esther Lupafya, from Ekwendeni, who shared a plentiful and delicious meal with us in the company of former minister Bill Brown and his wife Shirley. It was a time of welcome and meeting old friends, but also to hear from Esther of the escalating problems in Malawi especially because of drought, resulting in no harvest and extreme hunger.

On October 10 Shona Marr celebrated 50 years as organist and choir mistress of Longside Parish Church, Aberdeenshire. The achievement was marked by a special tribute to her during the morning service on October 4, at which she was presented with a gift by Parish Minister Rev Robert Fowlie on behalf of the congregation.

The servicer, featuring several hymns celebrating the use of music in worship, including Vaughan-Williams’ arrangement of the 100th Psalm, was led by the Church’s 25-strong choir.

On Sunday October 11 the Interim Moderator of Upper Donside Parish Church, the Rev Regine Cheyne (pictured third left), presented long service certificates to (from left) Cath Yeats, organist for over 30 years, William Anderson, Elder for 30 years, and Susan Brown, also Elder for 30 years.

Rev Fr Eston Dickson Pembamoyo - Thursday, October 29th, 2015

“It is good to recognise the service of the senior citizens especially as they continue to serve and live as examples of those that LOVE our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May the Good Lord richly bless them with good health and strength.”
