A celebratory service and lunch has been held in Aberdeen to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the commissioning of a deaconess of the Church of Scotland.

Miss Moyra McCallum was commissioned as a deaconess of the Church of Scotland on October 17 1965.

To celebrate, a special service and congregational lunch were held in Woodside Parish Church, Aberdeen, on Sunday October 18.

Much of  Moyra's service was in the field of education.  For 23 years she lectured to trainee deaconesses and missionaries at the Church of Scotland's St Colm’s College in Edinburgh.

St Andrew’s Kirk in Newcastle upon Tyne  was ALIVE and KIRKing on October 17 and 18. From handbells to happy children, from Glasgow singer-songwriter Craig Durning to Bayvox Choir and a eilidh to round off Saturday evening, the festival was described by the RevdDorothy Lunn as `possibly the best social event we’ve ever had`.

The pews were filled on October 18 for the church's  ALIVE and KIRKing Family Harvest Festival where thoughtful words and engaging activities helped children `of all ages` understand the Harvest message.

The Church would like to thank everyone who organised, supported, attended, listened, ate, danced and worshipped during the weekend and who contributed to the Harvest Festival, which was donated to the local charity Changing Lives. You can read more about their work here
