Mercy Ships Edinburgh Carol Service

Wednesday November 4

The charity Mercy Ships is hosting its first Scottish Christmas Carol Service at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh on Monday December 14.

Mercy Ships is an international charity that operates the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, to deliver free, world-class healthcare, as well as carrying capacity building and sustainable development programmes to those without access in the developing world.

The ship is currently docked in Madagascar where the charity plans to provide approximately 1,700 surgeries for patients onboard.

The charity’s Christmas Carol Service aims to remember those who are no longer with us. By filling out an online donation form, Mercy Ships invites attendees to send the names of loved ones to be printed in the Order of Service so that they can be remembered through prayer and song on the evening. Singing at the Service will be the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir.

Judy Polkinhorn, Executive Director of Mercy Ships UK, said: “In previous years we have held very popular Christmas Services in Sheffield and London so we are delighted to now be putting on our first Scottish Service in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. We invite all members of the general public to come and join us.”

The service in St Mary’s Cathedral, Palmerston Place (not to be confused with the Roman Catholic cathedral of the same name) starts at 7.30pm on December 14. It is free to attend but a collection will be taken for Mercy Ships. The service will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies.
