Countdown to BB Anniversary

 Monday May 27 2013

In 130 days’ time, the UK’s longest-running voluntary structured youth organisation, The Boys’ Brigade (BB) will be marking its 130th anniversary.

Current members of the original BB group in Glasgow gathered in the city’s George Square to begin the countdown to the anniversary celebrations, which include BB members taking part in the Great Scottish Run, Giant Sleepovers and World Record attempts.

The BB was conceived by Sir William Alexander Smith in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 and quickly spread across the United Kingdom before becoming a worldwide organisation by the early 1890s.

Bill Stevenson,  The Boys’ Brigade Director for Scotland, said: “  We are planning many celebrations right across the country.  The Boys’ Brigade has enhanced the lives of young people around the world and these celebrations will focus as much on these young people, including our dedicated volunteers.  It’s great that The BB is still growing and is still as relevant as it was in 1883.”
