James Millar of Kilwinning recently presented the congregation of Galston Parish Church, in the Presbytery of Irvine and Kilmarnock, with a matchstick model of the building. Mr Miller spoke to the congregation about his hobby and revealed that he has made more than 80 such models. Mr Miller is pictured with the Rev Alastair Symington, who accepted the gift on behalf of the congregation.

May 22 saw Traquair Kirk in the Borders continue its celebrations of 900 years of recorded worship at Traquair, by celebrating the exact bicentenary of the new Communion Cups. These fine silver cups replaced the somewhat rustic pewter cups and have been in continuous use since May 1816.

Today’s congregation celebrated a communion service which was a fusion of the old and the new exemplified by the minister, the Rev Janice Faris, advising the congregation that they were to be examined on their knowledge of the Apostle’s Creed, the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer only to then tell them that words were being projected from the computer as an ‘aide-memoire’. The elders satisfied themselves that the congregation were well-versed in these matters, and handed out 1754 communion tokens to allow the congregation to celebrate the sacrament either from the 1816 cups or from individual glasses.

The picture shows elder Paul Faris, who had taken the opportunity to dress up, Depute Session Clerk Norman Donald, Rev Janice Faris and Session Clerk Julia Stoddart with the ‘new’ and old Communion cups and flagons.

St. Ninian’s Craigmailen Church in Linlithgow is an Eco Congregation and has a very active Eco Group and supportive congregation.

Each year a Creation Service is held as part of the church’s eco activities, and this year Eco-Congregation’s Environmental Chaplain, the Rev Trevor Jamison was invited.

As part of the day, the congregation was asked to participate in a travel to church survey, indicating by placing tokens in boxes how they had and also lightened the day by carrying out a travel to church survey, which showed that 52 of the 96 people who took part had walked to church that day. The picture shows members of the congregation taking part in the survey as they entered church.

The Guild, Scouts and Sunday School of St Ninian's Church, Edinburgh, are working together to turn a messy, dull hidden area of land in the church grounds into a place of peace and tranquility where all groups can enjoy a space to make music, discuss their faith or be involved in creative activities.

The current space houses the scout's storage shed and has room for planting areas as well as seating space.

Using all kinds of eco-friendly materials and creating spaces for flowers , birds and bugs, young and old are working together to improve the environment for everyone. The picture shows children of the Sunday School, Alpha and the Scouts with bird boxes made to encourage birds into the garden.

Duntocher Trinity Church Guild, in the Presbytery of Dumbarton, held a birthday party for the Queen’s 90th birthday on June 1, with a dress code of pearls and tiaras/fascinators.
