Moderator Takes Part in Royal Salute

Tuesday July 2

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Rt Rev Lorna Hood, attended the Royal Salute at Edinburgh Castle marking the arrival of the Queen in Edinburgh yesterday.

Mrs Hood described the occasion as 'Yet another highlight in the life of a Moderator.'

She added: "Along with the Chaplain General I had the opportunity to inspect the soldiers and had a few words with them. They came from such far and wide places as Fiji and Kilwinning. This being Canada Day it was also a pleasure to have The Band of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada playing the National Anthems of both countries. Having spent my student ministry days working in Canada it was an added delight.

"It was yet another memorable day, taking part in a historic event."

The Queen usually spends a week in Edinburgh every year, carrying out engagements in various parts of Scotland.
