Former Moderator's New Role

Former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Very Rev Dr David Lacy, has been appointed by the Queen as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran.

Dr Lacy will take up the ceremonial role immediately, and it will see him attend functions on behalf of the Queen, when she is unable to attend. This will include duties such as handing out 100th birthday cards and congratulating couples on their diamond wedding anniversaries, as well as greeting members of the royal family when they visit the area.

As Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Dr Lacy will cover the whole of Ayrshire and Arran, but he expects that his role will focus on his hometown of Kilmarnock, where he is a full-time parish minister.

Dr Lacy, who was Moderator of the General Assembly in 2005, said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran and can’t wait to take part in my first engagement.

“Having been a parish minister in Kilmarnock for many years, I feel I know the community well and it’s great that the people in the local area will see a well-known face.

“I’m especially amused that I’ll be able to use the letters ‘DL’ after my name, making my initials DL DL.”
