Chaplaincy Call

Tuesday July 9 2013

Ministers are being invited to step up and see whether or not they have the calling to serve as an Army Chaplain at the Ordinance Outreach for Potential Army Chaplains Course in September.

The course, which runs between September 2-6, enables clergy to explore the opportunities that the Army has to offer them.

Chaplains provide pastoral support and the service of the church to men and women at home and on operations around the world. Members are ordained ministers who join with the authority of various sending churches.

Padre Deiniol Morgan of The Royal Army Chaplains’ Department said: “Army chaplaincy gives all chaplains the opportunity to preach and administer the sacraments to those whose lives are often almost entirely untouched by the Church. My military service has deepened my understanding of my Christian vocation and enriched my spiritual life.”

Army Chaplains wear uniform but do not carry arms. They are non-combatants who accompany units in war and on operations.

The Army is currently looking for new chaplains as part of a wider campaign called “Step Up” which aims to bring 10,000 new soldiers and officers into the Army in the coming year.
