Moderator congratulates Royal couple on birth of baby prince

The Rt Rev Lorna Hood hopes new baby will come to Scotland soon

                                                                                                                                                        Tuesday July 23 2013

Congratulating the Earl and Countess of Strathearn on the birth of their baby boy, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland hopes the new prince will come to Scotland soon.

The Rt Rev Lorna Hood, has also speculated whether one of the baby's names might have Scottish roots.

Mrs Hood said: "These first few days for the new young parents will be very special and we wish them lots of space and time to bond with their new young son.

“As the world awaits for the first glimpses our new young prince we look forward to his first visit to Scotland where he will be given the warmest of welcomes.

“No doubt like his father, Balmoral will become a special place in his early years and we hope he will grow to love Scotland as much as his father undoubtedly does.

“Names are always and should be a very personal choice but it would be wonderful if one of the baby's names had a Scottish flavour."

Earlier, congratulating the couple, she said: "The birth of a baby is a special event in any couple's life and a true gift from God. I am sure that he will grow up in a happy loving environment and offer our very best wishes to the Royal couple as they take their own steps into parenthood," she said.

The  baby, who weighed 8lbs and 6ozs, was born at 4.24pm yesterday (Monday July 22) in the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London.

A press release heralded his arrival before the news was posted, in line with tradition, on an easel at Buckingham Palace yesterday evening.

The new family spent the night together in hospital and may leave together later today.

(The Earl and Countess of Strathearn are the official Scottish titles of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge).
